Mindful Meditation

Our jobs as hairdressers is to make sure you all look and feel your best. Obviously this has been harder for us during this time, but we are doing our best to give you some tips and tricks while we are all locked down at home.

While it is great to be able to offer you some hair and beauty tips, we believe that beauty and health is a holistic approach and with it comes the mental health and wellness. Making sure that your mind is staying healthy should also be top of mind as well when it comes to your beauty regime, as times like this can be stressful and wreck havoc on our mental state. 

Meditation has been a huge help and benefit to myself during this time, it not only helps me to relax and help with my mental state, but it also enables me to have a more positive perspective of situations. While I am most certainly not a guru in the art of mediation, I thought I would share with you all a few of my tips and tricks when it comes to mediation that might help you during this time. 

Hopefully you find this helpful and put it into practise not only during this lockdown, but also afterwards as well as we all navigate through what will be our new normal. 

-Find a quiet spot, your favourite spot in the house, or outside (keep your social distance) and sit or lie down

-Close your eyes and try and shut the noise and outside world around you. 

-Try and clear your mind of lists, chores etc that need to be done. These may pop in and out during this time but allow them to come in and exit again. Acknowledge any other thoughts that come through take a mental note but don't let them linger or stay too long. 

-Focus on your breathing, calming down your heart rate and breathing normally. You don't need to do deep breaths or anything, just focus on breathing and how it reacts to your body. 

-Don't be hard on yourself if you find it hard to clear your mind the first time. 

-Take the practice in small steps, maybe one to two minutes the first time and build up your time.

-Remember do this for yourself, don't also feel pressured to allocate the same time always to practice. Do it when it feels comfortable for you and your schedule. If you skip a a day or two that is also fine as well.

I hope you find these tips helpful, there is great rewards that come with meditation when you put it into your life. It can change your entire mindset and hopefully bring in some peace and serenity into your life.
